Most of my early professional work was ethnographic, having received doctoral training in anthropology. I later began crafting stories with materials, sounds and light to express what is beyond language. I still work in relationship with people but mostly, nowadays, with plants and soils whose lessons are far worthier of our attention.
Working in close partnership with the City of New York, The Natural Areas Conservancy was created in 2012 to restore and protect New York City's 20,000 acres of wild forests and wetlands, improve coastal resilience, and promote nature’s diversity across the five boroughs.
Following a logo-reveal meeting at Pentagram studios and a conversation with the Conservancy's co-founder about the contributions and obstacles human communities to preserving urban wild spaces, I was contracted to edit their website copy with an early eye towards social inclusion. Now, in 2017, the Conservancy produces on-site stewardship events, shares technical data for all New Yorkers.
