Most of my early professional work was ethnographic, having received doctoral training in anthropology. I later began crafting stories with materials, sounds and light to express what is beyond language. I still work in relationship with people but mostly, nowadays, with plants and soils whose lessons are far worthier of our attention.

Bells, no Whistles

I’m back from a fab research + buying trip…visiting America’s last bell foundry, a master silver chasing + repousse artist and whirligig maker among others. I can see a light at the end of the sourcing tunnel and look forward to sharing some delights with y’all this fall.

This photo is of the foundry's bell patterns. They were made in the early/mid 1800s and have been used by this family of casters ever since. The mechanical engineering design and physics that went into these are impressive.  No CAD here. These bells don’t plink. These bells BONG!
