Most of my early professional work was ethnographic, having received doctoral training in anthropology. I later began crafting stories with materials, sounds and light to express what is beyond language. I still work in relationship with people but mostly, nowadays, with plants and soils whose lessons are far worthier of our attention.

Art Extension Service

Together, with artist Margaret Boozer and soil scientist, Edward R. Landa, I co-directed the Urban Soils Institute’s Art Extension Service from 2019-2021. We worked to:

  • Provide residency opportunities for international artists and geological scientists to exchange data, tools and materials, while freely exploring common interests and passions

  • Create an interactive community of scientists, artists, and citizens working on urban soils

  • Promote soils education through fun, accessible, poetic and unexpected means
